Joycelyn Rita Phillips, 82, of Bay City, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2008. She was born October 1, 1925 in Port Arthur, TX to Charlie Roy, Sr. and Hilda Marie Roy. She was a retired switchboard operator and a Life Member of Pt. Neches Groves Indian Reservation.
As the Lord called Joycelyn Rita Phillips home, he received a woman above all women. She was Mom, Momma, Momma Joyce, MJ, Dear, Jo Momma, Gramma, Sweetie, Grammaw, Mammaw, and Nanny to her family and friends. Momma Joyce loved her family big as the sky and taught each on that to live life to the fullest is to love and laugh often with loved ones. She was a faithful servant to her God and spread His word everywhere she lived.
Momma loved to sing, listen to her boys play their guitars and dance. She loved to garden, sew and follow her grandchildren's activities. Her kitchen was a Cajun culinary school where Grammaw taught her grandchildren to make gumbo and stuff a roast. Nanny was a "youth magnet" who listened to many teen's problems and gave sound advice. Momma loved shoes, to wrap houses, and let children eat sugar out of the sugar bowl.
Joyce Phillips will forever be remembered as the #1 PNG Indian fan
