Joy Lou Griffin, 52 of Sweeny, passed away Monday, August 17, 2009 at her residence. She was born January 13, 1957 in Wharton, Texas to Kermit & Ferne Finley.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 19, 2009 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, August 20, 2009 at First Baptist Church of Sweeny with Rev. John Price officiating. Burial will follow at Sweeny Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Kermit & Ferne Finley; husband: Ron Griffin; brothers: Kermit Richard "Pete" Finley and Billy Ray "Mike" Finley.

She is survived by her sisters: Anna Melder of Keller, Texas, Margaret Hooks of Sweeny, Carmen Ducro & husband Harvey of West Columbia; brothers: Roy M. Finley & wife Rhonda and Bubba Finley & wife Cathy, all of Sweeny. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, special friends, and her constant companion and beloved dog, Brady.

Pallbearers will be Les Fortenberry, Bobby Scantlin, Peter Raynor, Jonah Bailey, Frankie Ray and Roy Finley. Honorary pallbearers are the Sweeny / West Brazos EMS.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the National Kidney Foundation of Southeast Texas, 2400 Augusta, Suite 252, Houston, TX 77057.

Anyone who knew Joy loved her. She had many true friends because she was a true friend. Despite the fact she fought a lifelong battle with diabetes which resulted in the loss of both legs, an eye, many fingers and both kidneys, but never her spirit. What an inspiration to all of us. She woke every morning with at bright smile. Her thoughts were always of others. Her determination to care for others instead of herself kept her going through all her trials. She had to be there for those she loved. We will carry your love in our hearts forever, sweet girl.
