Josefa Nieto, 96, of Palacios passed away December 26, 2022.  She was born May 5, 1926 to the late Carmen Vela and Rosa Gomez Vela.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Manuel Nieto, son Manuel Nieto Jr, grandson Adrian Flores.

Survivors include daughters Josefina Diaz (late Benito Sr.), Blanca Flores (late Ramon), Herminia Gomez (Jose), Norabertha Yanez (Jose) and Aracely Nieto; sons Eleazar Nieto (Rosalba) and Jose Nieto; sister Ma. del Refugio Vela; brother Jose Vela; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM Thursday, December 29, 2022 at the Palacios Funeral Home.  Funeral Mass will be 10:00 AM Friday, December 30, 2022 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church.  Interment will follow at the Palacios Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Eleazar Nieto Sr., Eleazar Nieto Jr., Jose A. Nieto, Benito Diaz Jr., Miguel Diaz and Jose A. Flores. Honorary pallbearers are John Rodriguez, Juan Estudillo and Caleb Valdez.

Honorary pallbearers are Angel Diaz, Eduardo Nieto, Edgar Nieto, Argelio Yanez, Ricardo Yanez and the late Adrian Flores.
