John Albert Sliva, 94, of Palacios, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 29, 2018. He was born April 7, 1923 in Wallis, Texas to the late Edward Sliva and Mary (Kuchera) Sliva.
John served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded the bronze star medal. He was a retired farmer who spent many years farming and ranching in Matagorda County alongside his late wife, Dorothy Sliva.
John was preceded in death by his loving wife of 69 years, Dorothy Jean Sliva, and his siblings, Edward B. Sliva, Elija Sliva, Bessie Marek, and Edith Watson.
He is survived by his daughters Betty Ross (Fortune) and Linda Biskup (Adolph); grandchildren Chris Sexton (Greg), Jennifer Montague, Cathy Rickaway (Kevin), Mark Biskup (Susan), Jeff Biskup (Terrie), and Steven Biskup (Vicki); great grandchildren Gregory Sexton (Jessica), Katelyn Sexton, Johnathan, Luke, and Blaike Montague, Jordan and Taylor Rickaway, Makayla and Tori Biskup, Sara and Brian Biskup, Adam and Chance Biskup, and great-great grandchild Cason Biskup; Siblings Tony Sliva (Hazel) and Vicki Garcia (David), and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is being planned to celebrate John's life. Service and burial will be held at Hawley Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in John's name to Houston Hospice – El Campo.
