Obituary

John Patrick Miller, 63, of El Maton passed peacefully in his home on April 10, 2018. He was born in Waco, Texas on November 29, 1954 to Joseph and Laura Ferrell Miller. John graduated from Cleveland High School (Texas) in 1973.

John met and swept Barbara Davis off her feet at a dance in Houston in 1977. They were married and shared an adventurous 40 years of dancing, camping, rodeos, their kids, grandkids and so much more.
After 32 years as an operator for Phillips 66, he retired in 2013. Of all his work accomplishments he was most proud that he was never late a single day in those 32 years.

The Lord gave John a passion for helping others, especially the youth of Matagorda County and around Texas, teaching them skills, character and hard work. He was an Expos Little League Coach, formed a cub scout group in Matagorda, founded the Thundering Hooves/Texas Thunder 4-H Mounted Drill Teams, the Fellowship of Christian Cowboys Drill Team, and helped found the Phillips 66 Employee Benefit BBQ Cookoff. His longest service was with the Matagorda County Fair and Livestock Association, in which he volunteered for over 20 years in various capacities.

Preceding him in death are his mother Laura James, Stepfather Jodie James, sisters Jo Lynn James and Jimmie Srubar, father Joseph Miller, and niece Tami Dabney.

He is survived by his wife Barbara, daughters Jennifer Miller and Samantha Denbow, son John (Brooke) Miller, grandchildren Annie Tyler, Peyton Miller, JasePatrick Denbow, and soon to be Cole Miller, brother Bill Miller (Angleton), in-laws A.C. and Bernice Davis, and many extended family and friends.

Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 Thursday April 12, 2018 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City. Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 13, 2018 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Hawley Cemetery. Officiating the service is his pastor JimBo Warren of Coastal Plains Cowboy Church. Pallbearers are Donnie Dawes, Michael McCrory, Phillip Gates, Tony Gray, Max Howell and Josh Wagner.

Special thanks to El Campo Hospice staff, the nurses of Matagorda Regional and all his friends and family who stepped forward to help during his illness.
