John Voss McCrosky, Sr. passed away April 3, 2010 in Bay City, TX. He was born November 3, 1915 in Alice, TX to the late Thomas Kuykendall McCrosky and Asa Griggs McCrosky.
Voss was a long time rancher and cowboy. He worked for many ranchers throughout Texas and raised cattle and quarter horses for many years. He was a lifetime member of the Matagorda County Fair & Rodeo Association; a lifetime member of Bay City & Van Vleck FFA; Outstanding Cattleman of the Year in Matagorda County; organized the first 4-H Horse Club & first TYRA Rodeo in Matagorda County. He was a charter member of Descendant's of Austin's Old Three Hundred and a fifth generation Texan, whose ancestors settled Austin's Colony of Texas.
Voss was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Lloyd McCrosky, of 63 years, his brother, Griggs McCrosky, and a daughter, Patsy Sells.
He is survived by a son, John Voss McCrosky, Jr. and wife, Jeanette, and daughters, Donna Johnson and husband Hubert of Bay City and Elaine Hoffpauir and husband, David of New Waverly; a brother, T. K. Peter McCrosky and wife Sybil of Iowa, LA; a sister, Peggy McKenna of Orange, TX; thirteen grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 6 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 7 at First United Methodist Church, Bay City, with Rev. Chris Harrison officiating. Interment will follow at Hawley Cemetery, Blessing, TX.
Pallbearers will be Clifford Chamblee, Clay Hoffpauir, Tony Treese, Jim D. Pohlmeyer, Paul Davis, Carl King, Steven Kulak and David Orr.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Camille Green, Floyd Zboril, Billy Schwertner, Ronnie Plant, Mike Buffalo, Dan Harris, Jake Foltyn and Bud Stewart.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church and Matagorda County Museum in Bay City.
