John Leonard Matejek, Sr., 76, of Sugar Valley, TX passed away Sunday, March 23, 2008 in Sugar Valley. He was born August 27, 1931 in Yoakum, TX to John A. Matejek and Linnie Hoffer Matejek. He was a resident of Matagorda County since 1964, a retired Machinist from Celanese Chemical Plant, a member of St. Joseph on the Brazos Catholic Church of Brazoria, and a veteran of the US Navy during the Korean era.

He is survived by his wife: Elvie Lee Overton Matejek of Sugar Valley; his daughter: Rebecca Buff & husband Don of Victoria; his sons: John Leonard Matejek, Jr. of San Antonio and James Allen Matejek & wife Valerie of Lake Jackson; and by his grandchildren: Quentin Matejek and Aidan Matejek. He was preceded in death by his parents: Linnie and John A. Matejek, Sr. and his brother: Don Matejek.

The family will receive visitors from 6 PM to 8 PM Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bay City with Rev. Casey Jarzombek and Rev. Tin Pham officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Pallbearers will be Taft Snow, Federico Sanchez, Jr., David Crain, Ronald Plant, David Rutherford, and Stanley Spurr, Sr. Honorary pallbearers will be Dick Coughran, Charles Bess and Jacob Frick.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Joseph on the Brazos Catholic Church in Brazoria, TX or the First Baptist Church in Old Ocean, TX.
