John Charles Mahavier, 63, of Bay City passed away on Sunday afternoon, March 6, 2016, at Kindred Hospital in Sugar Land due to complications caused by pneumonia. He was surrounded by family and had a very peaceful transition from this life into his heavenly home. Johnny was born in Newgulf Texas on March 20, 1952 to James A Mahavier, Jr. and Dorothy McClung Mahavier. John graduated from Boling High School, United Electrical Institute in Dallas and attended Howard Payne University studying music and Old and New Testament. He was a past member of the Coastaleers, deacon at Newgulf Baptist Church and Matagorda First Baptist and First Baptist Church in Bay City.

He is survived by his mother Dorothy Mahavier; a sister, Gloria Crockett and husband, David; a brother, Mike Mahavier and wife Judy; a niece Michele Mahavier Pena and husband Nick; a nephew Michael Mahavier and wife Adriana, great niece Sky Nicole Pena, great nephew Nicholas Michael Pena.

Visitation will be at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 8, from 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 9 at 10:00 AM at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Lane Pardue and Dr. Michael Zimmerman officiating. Interment will be at Matagorda Cemetery following the funeral as weather permits.
