John Leslie "Big John" Hoffman, 59, of Sargent, TX passed away December 2, 2007. He was born March 28, 1948 in Washington, DC to Gladys Hennessey & Leslie J. Hoffman. He had been a resident of Sargent since 1976, served in the US Army in Viet Nam and was a member of VFW Post 2412 in Sargent. He was an awesome carpenter who loved and cherished his family & friends.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother Robert E. Hoffman. Survivors include his mother Gladys H. Hoffman of Bay City; wife Sandra Womack of Sargent; daughter Lisa J. Hoffman of Kingwood; son John P. Hoffman & wife Wendy of Bay City; brothers Paul Hoffman & Michael Hoffman both of Virginia; grandchildren Carissa, Lesley, & Kaley Hoffman all of Bay City and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. John-Nelson Pope officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Jim Taylor, James Cortinas, Mike Cortinas, Robert Hoffman, Jr., Bruce Hanzen and Pete Thibeault. Honorary pallbearers include Foster "Buddy" Simmons, Dale Matthew, Charles Jernigan, Steve LaBar, Todd Fletcher and members of VFW Post 2412. Memorials may be made to his grandchildren's scholarship fund at BayCel Federal Credit Union in Bay City.
