John Carl Hancock, 83, of Bay City, formerly of Victoria, passed away September 19, 2015. He was born December 29, 1931 in Marion, Ohio to the late Henry Hancock and Mary Atkinson Hancock. He worked as a CPA for Stanley Stores, Inc. for many years.
John attended the University of Corpus Christi where he met Peggy Vance. They were married in 1952 and were blessed to be together for 63 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army. John was a man of faith who loved to serve the Lord. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Bay City, where he was a deacon and Sunday School teacher for 35 years. He was a proud grandfather and great grandfather who enjoyed bird watching, being outdoors and playing Sudoku.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jack Vance Hancock. Survivors include his wife Peggy Vance Hancock; daughters Rhonda McMillan & husband Timothy of San Antonio and Karen McMahan & husband Tim of Victoria; son John Bradley Hancock & wife Lenona of Katy; and daughter-in-law Kathy Hancock of The Woodlands; grandchildren Sarah Earl, Christopher McMillan, Stephanie Robare, Melissa Hancock, Deborah Gass and Andrew McMillan and great grandchildren Luke McMillan and Liam McMillan.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 5PM until 7PM Monday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Mike Zimmerman officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gary Steele, O. D. Langston, Billy Mann, Tim McMahan, Tim McMillan, Chris McMillan, Andrew McMillan, Shawn Earl, Casey Gass and Stan Robare. The members of Adult 3 Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.
