Obituary

Joe Glenn "Pill" Sliva, 85, of Burnet, Texas passed away peacefully February 10, 2025, after a short illness.  He was born on March 4, 1939, in El Campo, Texas to the late Emil Andrew Sliva and Elsie Dorothy Kopecky Sliva.

He was a giving and caring father, a loving son, grandfather (Paw Paw) and brother. A loyal friend. He loved his children and grandchildren passionately.

Joe was raised in El Maton and lived most of his adult life in Blessing, serving on the water department board for many years and as a member of the Blessing Volunteer Fire Department in his younger years. He was a longtime member of American Legion Post 649 and was a proud Freemason. He worked for Celanese as a Plant Operator for 30 years, retiring in 1998. After his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family on yearly trips to Concan, traveling to the Arkansas and Missouri areas to enjoy the pretty scenery and landscapes, and watching and learning about the many species of birds that appeared in his backyard feeders. Upon retirement, Joe started a small business, delivering and selling fresh Gulf shrimp to the central Texas area, where he had many loyal customers and friends that would call him anytime they needed fresh shrimp.

Joe married Pam Green in 1961 and while they later divorced, their relationship remained cordial, which was a huge gift for their children.

Joe was known for his kind, selfless, caring demeanor. He always stressed the importance of safety to his family members and friends and was known for his catch phrase "Safety First" any time one of his flock was leaving his presence.

Joe had a strong enduring faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bay City, and more recently, the First Baptist Church of Burnet. He enjoyed and received much comfort from reading his Bible daily.

Joe was preceded in death by his loving parents Emil and Elsie Sliva, brother John Sliva, sister-in-law Vivian Sliva, nephew Gary Sliva, and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is

Survived by daughters, Leslie Holick (Steve) and Christa McClain (Greg); son Joe Sliva, Jr. (Denise); brother Emil Sliva; grandchildren Brian Sliva, Katelyn Spitz (Steven), Abigail McClain, Chelsea Roberson, Lacey Fancher (Bryan) and Bethany Holick and great grandchildren Zoey, Pendle, Lyndi, Aden, Zach, Virgil and Charli.
