Joe Ynes Barela, 80, of Bay City passed away December 20, 2017. He was born October 17, 1937 in Eagle Lake, Texas to the late Ynes Barela and Maria Romo Barela.

He was preceded in death by one son Army Airborne Ranger John Christopher Barela.

Survivors include his wife Elvira Barela; daughters Sylvia Ann Nelson (Craig) of Barrington, Illinois, Monica Mary Black (Jeff) of Poulsbo, Washington and Jackie Ramsey (Matthew) of Bay City; son Joseph Eric Barela (Tippi) of Baytown, TX; sister Romona Barela Garcia of Houston; brothers Toby Barela (Bernice) of Houston and Simon Barela (Virginia) of Van Vleck; grandchildren Ashley Ann Barela, Jordan Trinity Barela, Erin Rebecca Nelson, Jessica Rachel Nelson, Spencer Scott Black, Samuel Richard Black, Brennen Matthew Ramsey, Jacob Braden Ramsey and Pvt. Noah Parker Ramsey and one great grandchild Lilly Ann Oltz.

Visitation will be from 5PM until 7PM Friday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 AM Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Rev. Greg Korenek officiating. Interment will follow a Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Chad Bailey Ashcraft, Brennen Matthew Ramsey, Jacob Braden Ramsey, Pvt. Noah Ramsey, Matthew Ramsey, and Joseph Eric Barela.
