Joaquin Gutierrez Martinez, 79, of Bay City, passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2006. He was born November 28, 1926 in Bay City to Marcelino Perez Martinez and Petra Gutierrez Martinez. He was a life long resident of Bay City, a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and a US Army veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife: Victoria Camarillo Martinez of Bay City; by his daughters: Petra Campos of Gonzales, Rosemary Martinez, Pauline Martinez, Tomasa Perez, Mary Jane Montalvo and Alice Guzman, all of Bay City; by his sons: Gonzalo Martinez, David Martinez and Patricio Martinez, all of Bay City, Joaquin Martinez of Rockport and Jerry Martinez of Alvin; by an adopted sister: Elida Flores of Bay City; by an adopted brother: Javier Martinez of Bay City; and by 32 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents: Marcelino P. and Petra G. Martinez; by a son: Marcelino Martinez; and by a sister: Mary Lou Montague.

The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM Thursday, January 19, 2006 at Taylor Bros. Chapel. The Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, January 20, 2006 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City with military honors provided by the Philip H. Parker VFW Post # 2438. Pallbearers will be Ricky Luera, Ruben Lewis Jr., Leobardo Alfaro, Pat Martinez Jr., Gilbert Garza and Jerry Martinez Jr.
