Obituary

Funeral services for James 'Jimmy' Richard Milam, Sr., will be held at 10 a.m. on Thurs. (Feb. 9) at the First Presbyterian Church in Palacios, located at 501 3rd St. Burial will follow at the Palacios Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 - 7 p.m. on Wed. (Feb. 8) at the Palacios Funeral Home.

James was born on December 28, 1931 in Victoria to Wylie Richard and Beatrice Chaddock Milam and he passed away peacefully at his home on February 5, 2017. He was a 1951 graduate of Palacios High School and went on to serve his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

James was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Palacios and was employed and retired after 35 years from the Texas Eastern Transmission Corp. He loved the bay and enjoyed shrimping in his earlier years. James was a partner in Gold Coast Seafood and loved working alongside his son, Ricky. He was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge No. 991 and recently received his 50 year pin.

James is survived by his son, James Richard 'Ricky' Milam, Jr. and wife Penny; his daughter Rebecca Garcia and husband Pat; step sons David Smith and wife Sharron, Alton Smith and wife Kim; his sisters Marilyn Brister and husband L.J., Cheryl Brown and husband Homer, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Ruby. He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife Alma Frances Chamblee Smith Milam.

Pallbearers will be Homer Brown, Mark Bates, Matt Cinadr, Herbert Schneider, Vernon Bates, Jr., and David Smith. Honorary pallbearers are: Roy Markwardt, Carroll Cairnes, John Toellner, Homer Aparicio, L.J. Brister, and Louis Martino.
