Obituary
Lucy Jean Collins McLeod, 77, of Bay City, TX went to be with the Lord Thursday, March 24, 2016. She was born June 30, 1938 in El Campo, TX to the late Leslie Collins and Lucy North Collins and was the oldest of four children. Jean was a devout Catholic and attended Holy Cross Catholic Church for over 50 years and was the organist during that time.
Jean attended El Campo High School and later met the love of her life, Pat McLeod, at Wharton Co. Jr. College. They both graduated Sam Houston State in Huntsville and then moved to Van Vleck, TX. She taught in Van Vleck for a few years then moved over to Bay City and enjoyed another 15 years of teaching, before finishing her career back in Van Vleck in 1996. Jean was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma for over 50 years and a member of the Retired Teacher's Assoc. Along with teaching school, she also taught piano lessons to many students.
Jean is survived by her husband of 56 years, Pat McLeod; children and spouses, Patsy & Michael Jones of Bay City, David & Wendy McLeod of Huntsville, Molly & Terry Mirll of Midwest City, OK and Emily & Mark Sawyer also of Huntsville; brothers and sister, Allen & Dottie Collins of El Campo, Michael Collins & Dr. Carole White of Bartlett, and Annelle & Ted Hajovsky of College Station; grandchildren Michael Brandon & Kelly Payne, Michael Scott & Bonnie Barnett, Tiffany & John Peters, Joshua & Meghan Barnett, J.D. & Heather McLeod, Ashley Barnett and Jeanette, Teresa & Daphne Mirll; great grandchildren Madysin & Kinsey Payne, Jaxon & Kaden Peters, Cason Cooper Barnett and one great grandson due this July.
The family will receive visitors Monday, March 28 from 4:00-8:00pm at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. The rosary will be recited at 6:00pm that evening. Services will be 10:00am Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bay City, TX with Fr. Greg Korenek officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Holy Cross Catholic School or the Texas Retired Teachers Assoc. of Matagorda County.
