Janice Laurence Jones, 82, of Palacios, passed away Wednesday, December 26, 2007 in Port Lavaca. She was born June 24, 1925 in Austin, TX to Landis Pledger and Sadye Abbott Pledger. She was a resident of Palacios for 56 years and a member of Trinity Baptist Church. She graduated in 1945 from Lilly Jolly School of Nursing in Houston. She first worked as a Nurse at Alcoa, then worked as a Registered Nurse for 14 years at Wagner General Hospital. She and her husband owned and operated Casey Plumbing in Palacios.

She is survived by her daughters: Wanda Harris & husband Wyly of Lolita and Bobbie Kana & husband Joe of Palacios; by 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two husbands: Robert D. Laurence and R.Q. "Casey" Jones; her daughter: Freddie Jean Laurence; her son: Robert Landis Laurence; her parents: Landis & Sadye Pledger; and her sister: Peggy Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, December 29, 2007 at Trinity Baptist Church in Palacios with Rev. Louis Rush officiating. Interment will be at 3:00 PM Saturday, December 29, 2007 at Woodlawn Cemetery in Houston with Rev. Ron Shott officiating. Pallbearers will be Dustin Winckler, Eric Kana, Jeff Soltow, Ben Hunt, Wyly Harris, and Joe Kana.
