Jane H. Wendt, 78, of Sargent, TX passed away Monday, March 8, 2010. She was born March 21, 1931 in Sargent, TX to the late Adolph & Beatrice Chambless Socha. Mrs. Wendt was a lifelong resident of Matagorda County and a member of the Apostolic Pentecostal Church in Bay City. Buelah Walker and Velma Clements baptized her in the name of Jesus in the waters of Caney Creek. Her church and her family were the two most important things in her life. She was a passionate fisherwoman, gardener, and hunter. Mrs. Wendt served 22 years with Jackson Electric Co-op including the last several years as Chairman of the Board. She also owned and operated the Sargent Grocery Store for 23 years.

Jane is survived by her husband of 33 years: Dale E. Wendt of Sargent; sister: Lillian Graham; daughter: Sharon Lindberg & husband Fred of Sargent; son: Curtis Dale Sanders & wife Sabrina of Sargent; daughter: Gaye Lynette Daugherty of Bay City; grandchildren: Curt Speer, Chris Speer, Stefanie Charlston, Jill Green, Kevin Sanders, Ross Sanders, Janie Hilliard, Jacob Hilliard, Ethan Sanders, Aaron, and Savanah Cleveland; and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers: A.L. "Buddy" and Chester Socha; and 6 sisters: Leonora "Dinky" Donworth, Willie Beaty, Betty Smith, Velma Clements, Louise Pointer, and Leonie Kucerek.

The family will receive friends and family Wednesday, March 10, 2010 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held 10:00 AM Thursday, March 11, 2010 at the Apostolic Pentecostal Church in Bay City with Rev. Sam Starks and Rev. Jonathan McClintock officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City. Pallbearers will be: Tom Hudgins, Herf Cornelius, Jimmy Rieger, James Starks, Kevin Sanders, and Ross Sanders.
