James Clarence Wied, 85, of Van Vleck passed away June 28, 2025.  He was born June 23, 1940 in Taiton, Texas to the late Alex Wied and Regina Hoelscher Wied.

A hardworking family man, James had various areas of employment, ending his career working as an Operator at Texas Brine Underground Services, where he was respected by colleagues and cherished for his kindness, wittiness and wisdom. He found joy in spending time with his family and watching the Astros. One of his other great joys was mowing his yard and spending time outside. Pops always loved making others laugh and telling tales, some we never knew were true. He touched everyone's heart once he was around them.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings Edward Wied, Laura Hamons, Irene Pargmann, A. J. Wied and Clara Noska.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Evelyn Melton Wied; daughter Barbara Cassle (Zachary); sons Monty Wied (Becky) and Randall Wied (Kim); brother Robert Wied; sister-in-law Rosemary Wied; grandchildren Dawn Stewart (Charlie), Dana Smith (Denton), Darla Sellers (Michael), Jared Wied (Aimee), Dustin Wied (Haley), Kasen Wied (Claire) and Kameron Wied; 22 great grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Rosary will be recited at 9:30 AM Friday, July 11, 2025 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bay City.  Memorial Mass will be at 10:00 AM with Rev. Stephen Vacek officiating.  A graveside service will be conducted at 3:00 PM Friday, July 11, 2025 at St. John 's Catholic Cemetery in New Taiton, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Cross Catholic Church in James's memory.

Though he is no longer with us, his legacy of love and strength will live on in all who knew him.
