Former longtime Victoria resident James "Ed" Mitchell died September 3, 2006 at Memorial Southwest Hospital in Houston. He was born July 5, 1928 in Brooks, Alabama to James Ottis and Elna Sanford Mitchell. He was a member of the Catholic Church; served as supervisor for Dupont for 34 years; former member of the Knights of Columbus; and had been a resident of Bay City for the past 17 months.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Plaisance Mitchell of Bay City; daughter & son-in-law Karen & Forrest McDonald of Bay City; son & daughter-in-law James E., Jr. & Julia Mitchell of Houston; sisters Elizabeth Perdue, Emma Jane Walden, Hazel Mitchell, & Betty Rolling all of Alabama; brothers Roland and Lamon Mitchell both of Alabama & Don Mitchell of Omaha, NE and five grandchildren Kevin R. Mitchell, Jennifer Mitchell, Pat Mitchell, Christopher McDonald, and Kasie McDonald. He was preceded in death by a son Robert J. Mitchell; sister Mary Ellen Foley and brothers Raymond, Gerald & O'Neil Mitchell.

A rosary will be recited at 7:00pm Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2006 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am Thursday, Sept. 7, 2006 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bay City with Rev.
