James Gerold "Jerry" Milliff of Wadsworth, Texas was born to Lawrence and Edith Moberly Milliff on February 4, 1932 in Ridge, Texas. He went to be with his Savior on January 28, 2012. He enlisted in the Navy shortly after his graduation from high school. Jerry served his country on the USS Yorktown, USS Norton Sound, and USS Antietam during the Korean War. He married the love of his life, Kay Rea Ottis on August 4, 1956, and shared the rest of his life with her. Together they celebrated the arrivals of three children, five grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. After his time in the Navy, he attended and graduated from Sam Houston State University with a degree in Industrial Arts. He could design and build anything, and used his skills throughout his adulthood. He later attended and graduated from Wharton County Jr. College with a degree in Radiological Technology, and worked at the South Texas Project in the Health Services department as an x-ray technician. Although he retired in 1991 after becoming disabled, he continued to learn and take on new interests, enjoying the chance to express his natural creativity. He was active in the local VFW chapter as well as the Association of Disabled American Veterans. He helped establish and managed a transportation service to help local veterans go to the VA hospital in Houston for medical care. He was a frequent sight at Market Days raising funds to support the program. He served on the Wadsworth Water Supply Corporation board, and was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Holy Cross Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Catholic Church and 3rd degree of the Knights of Columbus - Council 3070.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Kay Rea Ottis Milliff, his children, Larry and Connie Milliff of Wadsworth, John and Tammy Milliff of Bay City, Kay Lynn and Tom Kovar of Bay City, his grandchildren, Jennifer Kovar of Bay City, Jason and Lanie Milliff of Bay City, Brandon and Megan Milliff of Bay City, Kacey Milliff of Austin, TX, and Jessamyn and Douglas De Vos of Bay City, his great-granddaughter, Ellasyn Milliff of Bay City, his devoted dog, Doc, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, and his brothers Lawrence "Jim" Milliff and Michael A. Milliff.
The family extends their thanks to the staff of Bay Villa Nursing home, Houston Hospice, and the wonderful folks at Matagorda Regional Hospital who took such loving care of our Paw Paw.
The recitation of the Holy Rosary will be 6:30P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. The Mass of the Resurrection will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Fr. Jerry Cernoch celebrant. Visitation will be from 6:00P.M. to 8:00P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial to follow at Cedarvale Cemetery with Military honors. Pallbearers will be Jason Milliff, Brandon Milliff, Douglas DeVos, Chris Ottis, Sean Milliff, Ryan Milliff, Matt Milliff and Kelly Oates.
