James Vernon Davis, Jr., 58, of El Maton, passed away Friday, July 25, 2008 in Bay City. He was born June 12, 1950 in San Antonio, TX to Dorothy Mae Gibson and James Vernon Davis, Sr. He was a resident of Matagorda County since 1974, a retired Superintendent from HP Zachry, and a member of the Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife: Elizabeth Howerton Davis of El Maton, his daughter: Lora Lynn Weakley & husband Chris of Brazoria; a son: James Brian Davis and wife Annette of Lolita; his sisters: Annie Jewel of Victoria, Betty Ann Davis of Vanderbilt and Margie Jackson of Tennessee; his brothers: John Davis of Vanderbilt, Mark Davis of Lolita and Eddie Davis of San Antonio; by his grandchildren: Corrine Rachae Anderson, Miranda Faye Hancock, Angela Marie Davis and Christopher James Davis; and by a great grandson: Colton Alan Anderson. He was preceded in death by his parents: Dorothy and James V. Davis, Sr.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Monday, July 28, 2008 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with Rev. Pauline Harvey officiating.
