James Nelson Cowger, 86, of Markham passed away March 11, 2025.  He was born February 16, 1939 in Bay City to the late Harry James Cowger and Evelyn Grace Schulte Cowger.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Patsy Cowger.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Joyce Cowger; daughters Laura Cowger Gonzales, Karen Cowger Boswell and April Thompson (Brad); son James Nelson Cowger II; sisters Deedy Cowger Huffman (David), Janie Cowger Watkins and Paulina Cowger Goodman (Timmy); grandchildren Sabria Sill, Miranda Gonzales, Harry Cowger, Heather Cowger, Hannah Cowger, Katie Milam, Alexander Milam, Christiane Milam, Randi Lyons, Daniel Thompson, Geneva Thompson and Cody Thompson and great grandchildren Norah Sill, Emmett Boone, Ethan Milam, Weston Milam and Reese Lyons.

Graveside services will be at 2:30 PM Thursday, March 13, 2025 at Hawley Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Edwin Logan, Cody Thompson, Harry Cowger, Keith Shuttlesworth, Grayson Cowger Huffman and Brad Thompson.  Honorary pallbearers will be Alexander Milam, James Nelson Cowger II, David Huffman and Daniel Thompson.
