Obituary

James Carley Bryan, 92, formerly of Tyler, Texas, passed away May 7, 2025. He was born December 20, 1932 in Zama, Mississippi to the late William D. Bryan and Lida Mable Brown Bryan. James graduated from Benavides High School and Texas A&I.

He served in the Army. He married his high school sweetheart and they had 4 children. He loved fishing and traveling in his RV. He enjoyed spending many summers in Colorado after retirement. He retired from Celanese.

He was preceded in death by three wives, Elizabeth (Betty) Louise Bryan in 1964, Viola Mae Bryan in 1994 and Billie Virginia Bryan in 2016; two sons, John Patrick Bryan in 1966 and William Michael Bryan in 1978 and one brother, Charles Thrasher Bryan in 2024. Survivors include his daughter, Joan Weathers (David); son James Bryan, Jr. (Debra); stepchildren Richard Minter (Pat), Jerry Minter, Walter Minter (Johnnie); sister Cynthia Ferguson (Tom); grandchildren Daniel Hanzik (Whitney), Michelle Huddleston, Michael Bryan (Kim) and Jennifer Bryan; 9 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM Monday, May 12, 2025 at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck with Rev. Lane Par-Due officiating. The family would like to thank Matagorda Nursing and Rehabilitation for taking great and loving care of daddy.
