James "Jimmy" McMahon Brangan, 73, passed away on January 24, 2025, at his home in Selkirk, Texas. Born on November 9, 1951, in Houston, Jimmy was the son of the late Francis J. Brangan Sr. and Mary R. McMahon Brangan. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Christopher "Chris" Brangan, and sister, Michaeleen "Mickey" Stepp.
Jimmy grew up in Bay City, Texas, with his loving parents and eight siblings. He was active in sports, the FFA, and the annual Matagorda County Fair. After attending San Jacinto Junior College, Jimmy earned his Texas Master Electrician License and went on to become a highly respected electrician and supervisor in the community. Throughout his career, Jimmy was passionate about mentoring young electrical workers, helping many get their start in the craft. His contributions to the trade are well-recognized by those who knew him professionally.
Outside of his work, Jimmy had a deep love for cooking. He was well-known for his culinary skills and was a valued member of the Harris and Matagorda County Go Texan Bar-B-Q Cook-off Teams. Jimmy's love for the kitchen extended beyond barbeque, and his talents were often acknowledged in competitive cooking events.
Jimmy's greatest joy in life was his family. He is survived by his beloved son, Taylor James Brangan; life partner, Anna Zittle; brothers Frances "Frankie" Brangan (Sandi), Michael "Mike" Brangan (Kathy), and Thomas "Tommy" Brangan (Tisha); sisters Susie Hargraves (Bill), Eileen Singleton, and Sister Ann "Patty" Brangan; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Connie Brangan and Malcolm Stepp; step-children Heather and Johnny Rae "Bubba" Zittle; step-granddaughter Kailynn Zittle; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members who loved him dearly.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025 from 1 to 2 P.M. at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home (2313 Avenue I, Bay City, TX 77414). Funeral Service will be at 2:00 PM followed by interment at Matagorda Cemetery. Pallbearers include Kenneth Bruce, Franklin Heger, Leroy Lopez, Dickie Thompson, Fred VanWie, and Dan Heger, with honorary pallbearers Bill Mallia, Nat Bustos, Danny Hagaman, Kenneth Knight, Larry Falkner, Larry Sedlacek, Buddy Treybig, and Rusty Shook.
Jimmy's family would like to extend special thanks to the Angel Care Hospice Agency for their compassionate care during his final days. Your kindness and expertise brought comfort during this difficult time. May God continue to bless the work you do.
