Obituary

Jack Hayden Hollister, 84, of Bay City, passed away on January 30, 2017. He was born August 23, 1932 in Ponchatoula, Louisiana to the late Graham Ladnier Hollister and Alice Fairfax Gautier Hollister. He married Eleanor Preisach on August 9, 1957 in Beaumont, Texas. Jack entered the Army and served in Japan in 1954. After leaving the military he attended school at Lamar University and University of Texas. Jack and Elly started their life in Beaumont and moved several places including Louisiana, San Antonio, McAllen, Kingwood and then to Bay City in 1984.

Jack was always very involved in his community and church wherever he lived. He was one of the main coordinators who started Little League in Louisiana and Beaumont, TX. He was the Bay City Chamber of Commerce President in 1988, a founding member of the Palacios Yacht Club, President and board member of the Matagorda Co. Museum & President and member of the Bay City Kiwanis. Being an avid golfer, he loved the game of golf and played as much as possible with all of his golf buddies. Jack was a wonderful family man and cherished every moment he had with his family. He cared about his friends and was amazing at checking up on them from time to time to make sure they were doing okay. Jack never met a stranger, he was one of the kindest, most loving men you could ever meet.

Jack is survived by his wife Elly, his son Lane (Teresa), daughter Lezlie Richards (Mark), grandsons Vincent Richards (Lindsey), Graham Hollister, Christopher Richards (Sheraden), granddaughters Lindsey Leissner (Chance) and Chelsey Richards, numerous nieces, nephews and family members. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jim Hollister and sister-in-law Sue Hollister.

Visitation will be at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home on Thursday, February 2 from 5:00-7:00pm. A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 3, 2017 at 3:00pm at First United Methodist Church in Bay City with Pastor Russ Munch officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City. Pallbearers will be William Ratliff, David Kautz, Vincent Richards, Graham Hollister, Chris Richards and Chance Leissner. Honorary pallbearers are the members of the Friendship Sunday School Class, Mel Bradburn, Wynn Brinson and Kent Broussard.
