J. O. Thompson, Jr., 91, of Sweeny passed away December 25, 2018, following a brief illness. He was born March 15, 1927, in Markham, TX, to James Ozza Thompson, Sr., and Nell Tobeck Thompson Bradford.
He proudly served his country in the US Navy during WWII and in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Shortly after his discharge, he began his career at Phillips 66, retiring after 33 years of service as a machinists' supervisor.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Evelyn Rose, Mary Hairell, and Frances Mitchell; brothers Jesse Thompson and Henry A. Bradford; and son-in-law Brad Wood.
Survivors include his wife Evelyn Thompson of Sweeny; sons David Thompson & wife Lola of Sweeny, and Dickie Thompson & wife Lora of Markham; daughter Leeda Wood of Mission, TX; grandchildren Heath Thompson & Liz Flash, Cody Thompson & wife Tonya, Kasey McGee, Nikki Thompson, Lauren Thompson, Catherine Wood; Jason Wood and wife Heather, Bradford Wood and wife Dora; and by 20 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 4PM until 6PM Thursday, December 27, 2018, at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in Bay City. Graveside services with military honors will be 2PM Friday, December 28, 2018, at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Enrique Leal and the nurses and staff of Sweeny House, Sweeny Hospital, and A*Med Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.
