IN LOVING MEMORY OF
J. L.
"Butch" Cashion
September 6, 1943 – October 19, 2025
J.L. "Butch" Cashion went to be with the Lord on October 19, 2025. Butch was born on September 6, 1943, in Almeda, in Harris County, TX.
He is preceded in death by his Mother Mary Elizabeth Cashion, Father David Malcom Cashion and brothers Billy Cashion and Jimmy Cashion. Butch is survived by his brother Tommy Cashion and wife Kitty, and their daughters Deanne, Lena, and Tommie Lynne.
He is also survived by his loving wife of over 50 years, Sandra Cashion; his children, Steve Cashion and wife Kim, Tina Keen and husband Troy, and Nathan Cashion and wife Martha; his grandchildren, Maegan Griffith, Leighton Keen, Cole Cashion, and Cullen Cashion; and great-grandchildren, Walker and Parker Griffith and multiple nieces.
Butch graduated from Bay City High School in 1962 and went to work for Celanese Chemical Company from '63-'71 in maintenance. He later graduated from the Texas Department of Public Safety Academy as a Highway Patrolman and worked for them from '71-'75. After serving in public safety, he traveled the world in Mexico, Netherland -Antilles, Syria, Hong Kong, St. Croix Virgin Islands and Algeria working in construction management with Ebasco Service from '79-'86, Brown & Root '86-'98 before returning home to open Riverbend Restaurant in Matagorda in '98, which he and Sandra operated for 19 years.
One of his favorite pastimes at the restaurant was feeding the wild hogs across the river, earning him the nickname "The Hog Whisperer." In his later years, Butch could often be found walking his dogs through the neighborhood—always on the lookout for his next "treasure."
His love for Sandra was steadfast and unconditional. Known for his quick wit and sharp commentary on politics, sports, and life in general, Butch's humor was as entertaining as it was insightful. He loved the outdoors, especially riding his Harley and fishing in the surf, passions that will forever remain part of his legacy.
The absence of his lively spirit, humor, and colorful storytelling will leave a lasting void in the hearts of all who knew him. While Butch will be deeply missed, his family takes comfort in knowing he was more than prepared to meet his Lord and Savior. He had run his race and was ready to go home.
The family will receive visitors starting at 10:00 AM Saturday, November 1, 2025 with a Memorial Service following at 11:00 AM at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with Father Stephen Vacek Officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Texas Blessings Rescue OR For the Love of Animals, Bay City, TX.
