Hunter Samuel Robert Janek , 15, of Matagorda passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2015. He was born on May 10, 1999 in Lake Jackson, Texas to Charles and Lorin Haefs Janek. Hunter was raised in Needville, Texas and attended Needville Elementary, Middle School, Junior High and High School before moving to Matagorda. He was a Freshman at Van Vleck High School where he was an Ag student and a member of FFA.

Hunter had been a member of the Matagorda community for the past two years where he never met a stranger. He was loved by his family and many friends. Hunter loved hunting with his Papa Bob and Papa Kutty and his father Charlie. He scored his first deer with Papa Bob at Jones Creek when he was only 6 years old. He loved fishing and working on his truck with his Papa Mark. Hunter had a zest for life and "seized the day" every single day of his life. He was the spark of his family! He absolutely loved living in Matagorda where he enjoyed driving his Jeep on the beach. Hunter, we miss you and the hole in our hearts will NEVER be filled.

Hunter is preceded in death by great-grandfather Samuel Gant, grandfather Kutty Kolar, and grandfather Ervin Meadows. Survivors include his mother Lorin Meadows; father Charles Janek; step-father Mark Meadows; brother Ryan Janek; sister Madison Janek,; maternal grandparents Bob & Nelda Lycka; paternal grandparents Connie Kolar, Jeannette Meadows, James & Carol Janek; great –grandmother Esther Gant; best friend and "brother" Cody Elshick, uncles, aunts, cousins and hundreds of devoted friends.

Visitation will be Thursday May 7, 2015 from 5:00-8:00pm at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Friday, May 8, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Matagorda. Interment will follow at Matagorda Cemetery.
