Obituary

Howard T. Clements Sr., 78, of Cedar Lane went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 8, 2011. Howard was born August 21, 1932 in Noble, Louisiana to the late Clemy T. Clements and Ruby Lynch Clements.

Howard was a member of the Cedar Lane Baptist Church. He attended the Cedar Lane School House, Bay City High School, graduated from Van Vleck High School, and attended Wharton County Jr. College and The University of Houston. He was a member of the United States Marine Corps beginning in 1951 and retired as a Sergeant in 1954. While in the Marine Corps he received a Letter of Commendation for saving lives in a submerged amphibious tractor. His careers included being a cotton farmer, working at Phillips 66 for 9 years, and Celanese Chemical Plant where he retired as a supervisor in 1988.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Hazel Durr Clements; 2 sisters: Lola Ruth Laird of Pasadena, and O'ree Goodson of Houston; son: Howard Clements Jr. & wife Chris of Van Vleck; 3 daughters: Terry Young & husband Jim of Lindale, Ruby Owen & husband Fred of Cedar Lane, and Cindy Lowry & husband Scott of Cedar Lane. Howard had 8 grandchildren: Melanie Young, Petey Owen & wife Natalie, Perry Owen, Percy Owen, Rebecca Clements, Shanna Clements, David Owen Jr., and Johanna Lowry. His 2 great grandchildren are Luke and London Owen. His 7 brothers: T.J. Clements, Clemy Clements II, Custer H. Clements, Ennis Pete Clements, Ira Brice Clements, Marvin O. Clements, and George Clements preceded him in death.

The family will receive visitors from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, June 10, 2011 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, June 11, 2011 at Cedar Lane Baptist Church in Cedar Lane, TX with Rev. David Roach officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. The pallbearers will be: David Owen Jr., Petey Owen, Perry Owen, Percy Owen, Dale Trevino, and Raymond Brooker. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Howard's Sunday School Class
