Herman W. Odom, Jr., 86, a long time resident of Bay City, Texas, passed away Friday June 15, 2012 at Matagorda Regional Medical Center in Bay City.
Herman was born on December 7, 1925 in Durant, Mississippi to Herman W. Odom, Sr. and Hazel Hamilton Odom. He graduated from Durant High School in 1943 and subsequently entered military service for the United States Army Air Force during WWII. After leaving the service he attended and graduated in 1949 from his beloved Mississippi State University. Herman and his wife of 61 years, Vivian Grantham Odom, fell in love and were married on June 30, 1950 in Durant and settled in Bay City in 1955. Herman began his professional career with General Motors Acceptance Corporation, retiring after 32 years of service and had the pleasure of joining The First National Bank of Bay City shortly thereafter until 1996. He loved meeting people, the conversations and a nostalgic perspective on life.
Herman is preceded in death by his loving wife Vivian and is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Reid and husband Matt of Humble, Texas, Linda Saha and husband Glenn of Houston and one son, Charles H. Odom of Spring, Texas and a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren; Pierce Reid, Elizabeth Reid, Lauren Saha, Natalie Saha, Andrew Saha, Christi Fulton and husband Chris, Claire Hollek and husband Nathan and Scott Odom.
The family will receive visitors Monday, June 18, 2012 from 12 Noon to 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Funeral services for Herman will be held on Monday, June 18, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Bay City with Rev. Chester Sassman officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Glenn Saha, Matt Reid, Scott Odom, Andrew Saha, Nathan Hollek and Pierce Reid will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Matagorda Regional Medical Center Foundation, 104 7th St, Bay City, Texas 77414 in honor of both Herman and Vivian Odom.
