Obituary

Helen J. Roundtree Harmon, 90, of Richmond passed away on April 18, 2026 in Richmond, TX. She was born in Glen Flora, TX on August 17, 1935 to the late Aslee Taylor & Alvin Roundtree. From an early age, She shared her upbringing with Mary Lou Brooks, Elton Ray Hawkins, and Linda Matthews. Helen was raised in Bay City and attended Hilliard High School, graduating in 1953. She joined Mother Zion Baptist Church at an early age under the leadership of Rev. C. H. Brown and was baptized in the canal in Bay City at the age of 13. She was one of the first black women to graduate from Wharton County Junior College’s Licensed Vocational Nursing Program. Later, she earned her Associate’s Degree as a Registered Nurse from Alvin Community College in 1974.

Helen held various positions throughout her Nursing Career, beginning at Matagorda General Hospital, and retiring after 21 years of service at UT Health Science Center in Houston. She was also a member of Daughters in Progress, and The Christian Business and Professional Organization.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Rozell Harmon; brother: Elton Adkins; niece Gienna John; and great niece: Shontaye Hawkins.

Many loving memories will forever be cherished by her sister: Linda Matthews (James Matthews); nieces: Alicia Hawkins, Helena Hawkins, and Jamey Young; nephews: Dennis Brooks, Benjamin Boler III and Deshone Boler; great nieces: Sandra John, Alexia Young, Aleysha Young, Keshaun Boler, Makayla Boler, Erin Boler, and Gracynn; great nephews: Deshone Boler Jr, Benjamin Franklin Boler IV, and Antonio John; many great nieces and great nephews; and other loving family members.

The family will receive visitors starting at 2:00 PM Saturday, May 2, 2026 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. The Funeral will follow at 3:00 PM with Pastor Ben Hadden officiating. Interment will follow at Eastview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Reginal Atkins, Benjamin Boler III, Antonio John, Jarvis Woodruff, Freeman Woods, Edwin Knowles, and Andrew Sardina. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Reginal Atkins, Kenneth Atkins, Dennis Brooks Jr, Benjamin Boler, and Antonio John

Today, we do not mourn her passing, we celebrate her life. We honor the woman she was, the values she stood for, and the love she leaves behind. Her spirit will forever remain in our hearts, guiding us forward with gratitude and remembrance.
