Guadalupe Mata Arias, 87, of Bay City passed away November 29, 2025. She was born March 5, 1938, in Rosenberg, Texas to the late Pascual Mata and San Juana Sotelo Mata.
Ms. Lupe (as known by most) graduated from Lamar Consolidated High School in Rosenberg, TX and then attended a secretarial school. She met the love of her life in 1957 at Our Lady of Guadalupe church bazaar in Bay City. In September of 1960 they married and he moved her to Bay City. She worked at Celanese for 30 years. After retiring from Celanese she stayed home for about a year and could not stand being idle. So she went to work at Palais Royale for 14 years. During those 14 years she had a second job at City of Bay City for a few years. After retiring from Palais Royale she then went to volunteer at Matagorda Regional Medical Center as an auxiliary member in the gift shop. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and L.U.L.A.C. As a L.U.L.A.C. member, she worked with the youth council where she was a great influence to many youth.
She had a great personality and loved to talk and help people. She made friends everywhere she went. She loved her family dearly. She loved to cook and bake. It made her happy for family or friends to put in their request for her to cook or bake. She was always dolled up. She would not step out of the house without her make-up and hair curled. When she fell ill and in the hospitals she would tell all the nurses and caretakers how beautiful they were and how much she appreciated them. She was so appreciative to all who helped take care of her. If you knew her, you loved her. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Robert Arias, Sr., brother Angel Mata, Sr. and sisters Juanita Luna, Margarita C. Aldelerete and Lucia Mata. Survivors include her 4 children Lenora Arias Reyna, Elisa Aparicio (David), Robert Arias, Jr. (Scarlett) and Sonya Grace Cruz (Cris); sisters Soledad Vazquez, Patricia Cantu and Mary Jasso; 14 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 PM. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, December 4, 2025, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Rev. Gabriel Espinosa officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Marcos Aparicio, Jacob Aparicio, David Aparicio, Johnnie Reyna, Jr., Zachary Arias, Luke Arias, Milo Cruz and Kamren Cruz.
