Gordon Earl Mathis, Jr., age 59, passed from this life on Saturday, April 26, 2008. He was born February 27, 1949 in Bay City, TX to Gordon E Mathis, Sr. and Esther Lucille Mathis. Gordon was a member of the St. Johns #5 Masonic Lodge of West Columbia and loved by all who met him. He always had a smile on his face and never met a stranger.

Gordon is survived by his wife, Wanda Acheson of Bay City; son, Gordon Earl Mathis, III and wife Rebecca of Sweeny; daughters, Deeanna Sneath and husband Ray of Markham; Amanda Simmons and husband Jimmy of Kingwood; Michelle Chandler of Angleton; step-daughters, Connie Miller and husband Russ of Bay City; Brenda Stephens and Troy of Atoka, OK; Cindy Brown of Henderson, NV; step-son, Larry Acheson, Jr. and wife Lisa of Bay City.

Gordon has 20 wonderful grandchildren who were his pride and joy and 2 wonderful great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father Gordon E Mathis, Sr. and grandson, Clinton Allen McGinty.

Visitation will be from 6-8 PM on Monday, April 28, 2008 and services are scheduled for Tuesday, April 29 at 3:00 PM at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home. A Masonic burial will follow at Cedervale Cemetery.
