Our Beloved Mother and Grandmother
Goldie was the daughter of Mora May and Marian Alfred Posey, born in Cunningham, Texas on April 18, 1908. She married Willis Clifton Brown on September 23rd, 1925, and lived in Grapeland, Texas before moving to Blessing, Texas in 1946. In Blessing, she was a founding member of the First Baptist Church of Blessing, a Sunday School teacher, a Vacation Bible School worker (back when VBS was 2 weeks long), WMU member, an active prayer warrior, and a member in good standing of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Goldie was known as Nanny to all of her grandchildren, who spent countless hours at her home in Blessing playing in the yard, doing yard work, and learning to sew, cook, and crochet.
Goldie and Clifton had 4 children: Willis Harold, William Milton, Betty Ruth, and Margie Elaine.
She had 13 grandchildren: William Milton Brown Jr., Aleta Hoodless, Deborah McGahey, Willlis Harold Brown Jr., Joel Brown, James Brown, Emeric Blair Jr., Thomas Blair, Herb Blair, Goldie Rogge, Kerry Griffith Jr., Kevin Griffith, and Karen Taylor. Goldie had 31 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great grandchildren.
Goldie was preceded in death by her husband (Willis Clifton Brown), her parents (Marian Alfred and Mora May Posey), her brothers (Charlie, Kenneth, and Buford), her sisters (Ida, Rachel, and Ollie), her son Harold, her son-in-law Emeric, Sr., her daughter-in-law Dorothy, her grandson Joel Brown, her grandson-in-law Charles, and her great granddaughter Kelly Renee Griffith.
She is survived by her children Tink, Betty, and Margie, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, March 27, 2008 at the Palacios Funeral Home in Palacios, TX with Kevin Griffith officiating. Interment will follow at Hawley Cemetery in Blessing, TX. In lieu of sending flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice in Goldie's Name.
