Obituary

Glenn Wesley Robertson, 88, was born February 7, 1925, to Lester & Bessie McClain Robertson in Wheeler, Texas. He was the 2nd of 3 sons, with Lester Jr. older & Billy Wayne younger. He passed from this life early Monday, October 7, 2013.
He attended Wheeler School, except for a few grade school years when he went to Briscoe School while his mom was librarian there. As a high school junior in Wheeler he was drafted into the Army at barely 18 years of age, May 31, 1943.
He was in Basic Training for 3 months at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, then sent to England & the European Theater where he was in 4 major campaigns: Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, & Central Europe. He was part of the landing of troops at Normandy Beach. He was a bugler for 20 months & then a dental technician the last 6 months of service. He was on the front lines in France as a medic and then a dental technician in Germany.
After being discharged December 28, 1945 Glenn came back to Wheeler and finished High School with the 1946-1947 class. While doing this he also drove a school bus. After graduation he went to work at Wheeler State Bank.
While back in school he met & won the heart of Melba May who was a sophomore at the time. They were married June 6, 1948 & had 65 years to walk hand-in-hand together.
From 1948-1956 he worked for Southwest Public Service. At that time he went to work for Celanese Chemical Co., first in Pampa & then in Bay City where he retired in 1981. He then ran a sod farm & managed Vevi Steven's Ranch.
He was preceded in death by both parents & his older brother Lester Jr.
He was blessed & loved by 2 daughters: Viki Robertson Schaal & Marsha Robertson Hall.
He was ordained a deacon in White Deer, Texas in 1963 and after moving to Cedar Lane was accepted as a deacon in Cedar Lane Baptist Church where he served the Lord for 46 years.
Glenn could tell funny stories, loved all sports, and was a man who "walked the walk".
He is survived by his wife –Melba May Robertson, 2 daughters, Viki & Charles Schaal and Marsha & Luke Hall.; grandchildren, Trenia & Monty Montgomery, Melanie & Chris Bersano, Marc & Kimberly Hall, Shelly & Matthew Chambers, Amanda & Ryan Host; great grandchildren, Grace, Glenn & Olivia Montgomery, Faith & Dominick Bersano, Nicholas Hall, Tatum & Griffin Chambers, Cole & Levi and soon to be Jase Host.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, Oct. 10th, at Cedar Lane Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Patterson officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Cedar Lane Baptist Church, Building Fund or the Matagorda County Cavalry, P.O. Box 1147, Bay City, Texas 77404 c/o Danny Lee.
