Gladys Goodwin Stridde, 82, of Bay City died Wednesday, January 3, 2007 in St. Louis, MO. She was born on October 3, 1924 in Laredo to the late Tessie and Tom Goodwin, the youngest of six children. Her siblings, Genevieve, Hiram, Tom, Trixie and Minnie preceded her in death. Her father moved to Laredo to help build the TEX-MEX railroad, where he worked as a master mechanic until his retirement. Gladys, known to many as "Cita," (short for Mamacita) moved to Bay City in the mid-1940's with her husband, Raymond, who at the time was with the State Highway Patrol. She was active in local community organizations such as the Bay City Museum. She held various clerical positions until she retired to pursue her love of antiques. She and Raymond opened an antique shop in her home and appraised antiques for estate sales.
Her husband, Raymond R. Stridde, preceded her in death in 2004. At that time she moved to St. Louis, where she died of complications from Alzheimer's. She is survived by her two children, Therese S. Cristiani of St. Louis, MO, and Rob Stridde of Boulder, CO as well as three grandchildren, Katharine Cristiani of Boston, MA; Jeffrey Cristiani of Oberlin, OH; and William Stridde of Boulder, CO. Cita loved her family dearly and will be missed.
The family will receive visitors from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, January 12, 2007 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM Saturday, January 13, 2007 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Chris Harrison officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. Memorials may be made to The Alzheimer's Association. Arrangements with Taylor Bros.
