Gilbert Paul Sliva, 86, of Bay City passed away August 18, 2010. He was born November 22, 1923 in Wallis, TX to the late Emil W. & Annie Hattie Pisklak Sliva. He was a devoted member of Holy Cross Catholic Church where he was always happy to volunteer for any duty. He served in the US Navy during World War II on the USS Hornet, and was discharged as a Radarman Third Class after 8 years and was a life member of VFW Post 2438 of Bay City.
Survivors include daughters Kathy Braden & husband Pat of Katy, Patty Whitmer of Houston & Jeanie Sliva of Plano; sons Steve Sliva & wife Donna of Bay City & Gil Sliva, Jr. of Fredericksburg, TX; sisters Marie Robinson of Hope, Arkansas, Carmel Harrison of Bay City, Ann Webber & husband John of Bay City, Flo Saha & husband Alvin of Angleton & Kitty King & husband Marshall of Pearland; brother Frank Sliva & wife Barbara of Bay City; grandchildren Eric, Cody, & Tyler Braden, Lindsay Garrett, Lauren Whitmer, Julia Molle` & husband Henri, Sam Sliva, Mindy Galli & husband Bruno, Jason & Emily Sliva; and great grandchild Brooke Garrett. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother Emil Sliva, brother Sylvester J. Sliva, brother B. J. Sliva, his wife of 27 years Mary Janette Sliva, granddaughter Danielle Whitmer, and step grandson Greg Simons.
A rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM Friday, August 20, 2010 at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Mass will be 2:00 PM Saturday, August 21, 2010 at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Rev. Casey Jarzombek officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park with military honors provided by VFW Post 2438. Pallbearers will be Sam Sliva, Paul Sliva, Kelly Webber, George Harrison, Tommy Harrison & Joey Sliva. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Simons, Jason Hudson, Eric Braden, Robert "Bob" Sherrill and Stuart Sliva.
