Gerald "Jerry" Vernon Payne, 90, of Lake Jackson, passed away Monday May, 19, 2008 at Village on the Creek in Clute, TX. He was born March 26, 1918 in Pleasant Township, OH to John Burleigh Payne and Pauline Katherine Leader Payne. He was formerly a resident of Bay City and Alvin, was a member of the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in Lake Jackson, was a retired Pipefitter and life member with Local Union # 211 of Houston, TX, and was a World War II veteran of the US Army.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Martha Susan Payne of Lake Jackson; by four daughters: Elsie Givens & husband Wayne of Brazoria, TX, Deloris Schaefer & husband Harvey of Alvin, Connie Magford of Hunt, and Kay Wells of Texas City; by a son: Jerry Lee Payne of Lake Jackson & and wife Rebecca of Angleton; by sisters: Doris Boise, Irene Bassett, Donna Rose, Mildred Rose; by twelve grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents: Pauline K. Leader Payne Harden and John Burleigh Payne; and by three sisters: Virginia Harden, Martha Jordon and Geneva Newell.
The family will receive visitors from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home, Bay City, TX. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at the Hawley Cemetery, Blessing, TX. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Pickrel, Chris Wisofsky, Harvey Lee Schaefer, Matthew Schaefer, Jerry Lee Payne, Jr. and Joshua David Payne.
Celebration of Life Services for Gerald will be held at 5:30 PM Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at the First Christian Church in Lake Jackson, TX with Rev. Cynthia Meyers officiating.
The family wishes to express gratitude and appreciation for the love and support of family and friends.
A "Special Thanks" to the staff of Village on the Creek, in Clute, TX, who cared for him. Also a "Special Thanks" to the A-Med Community Hospice staff, especially Julie, Eric, Diane, and Teresa.
