Gerald Ray Burwell, Sr. beloved father, grandfather and friend passed away at 9:10 p.m. on Friday, June 20, 2014.
Gerald was born August 31, 1936 to William Lee and Celia (Lindley) Burwell in North Freedom, Wisconsin. He moved to Texas at age 15, and graduated in 1955 from Bay City High School. He worked for the Texas Hwy Department and retired from Dow Chemical. He loved God, his family, friends, fishing, horses, reading and westerns.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Betty Miller (Bruce), Susan Cannon, brothers, Charles Burwell (Donna), and Granddaughter, Renae Lynn Burwell.
He is survived by his daughter Laura Burwell Brieden (Eric) of Lake Jackson, Gerald (Jerry) Burwell, Jr. of Bay City, his sister, JoAnn Smith of Bay City, brothers, Don Burwell (Norma) of Angleton, Mickey Burwell (Shirley) of Alvin. Also survived by Grandchildren, Lindsey Austin (Cyrus), Landon Burwell, Evan Brieden, Edie Svetlik (Jamie) and Great Grandchildren, Kaleb, Kalli, Treylan, Jalen and Grayson, numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Pallbearers include: Lewis Lawrence, Brett Lawrence, Syrus Austin, Landon Burwell, Evan Brieden, and Eric Brieden. Honorary Pall Bearers include: Lovell Lawrence, Calvin (Gene) Jenkins, Jesse Villasana, Don Miller, Robert Kolojaco and David Schmoker.
Special thanks to Caregivers: Christine Burwell, Don Miller, Hay Sim Ly (Bay City Seafood), the staff at Angels Home Health Care, Houston Hospice, Matagorda Hospital District (Outpatient), Methodist Hospital in Sugarland, all the friends, family, extended family and prayers.
Visitation is scheduled at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home from 5:00-7:00pm on Tuesday, June 24. Funeral service is scheduled for Wednesday, June 25 at 2:00 p.m at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery
