George Melvin Schafer, 76, of Blessing passed away September 2, 2011. He was born June 6, 1935 in Ferris, Illinois to the late Benjamin Wesley Schafer & Gladys Lucille Gladwell Schafer.

Two daughters Larel Bee Rodriguez and Laquetta Marie Schafer preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of almost 56 years, Marion Duncan Schafer of Blessing; daughters & their husbands Bonnie Lou & Clifford Sheffler of Kahoka, MO and Orel Lee & Angel Chavez of Bay City; sons and their wives L. Ben Schafer & Vicky of Bay City and Lloyd & Brenda Schafer of Blessing; sister Alice Hansen of Missouri; brothers Frank Schafer of New York, Jim Schafer of Iowa and W. Dale Schafer of Missouri; 15 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 6pm to 8pm Monday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Richard Poundstone officiating. Interment will follow at Hawley Cemetery in Blessing. Pallbearers will be Angel Chavez, Timothy Schafer, Gregory Schafer, Jeremy Tate, Lonie Tate & Buddy Biggerstaff.
