George H. McDonald, 84, of Bay City passed away Tuesday June 8, 2010 at his residence following a long illness. George was born on January 9, 1926 in Beaumont, Texas to parents Peter and Evelyn Laribee McDonald. George was a 32year employee of the Texas Dept. of Transportation as a senior structural engineer until his retirement in May of 1987. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corp serving in World War II. He was also a member of the Bay City chapter of The Gideons International.

He is preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, Robert Lynn McDonald, a sister, Mary Joyce McDonald, and an adopted sister Helen Lighter. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Leota McDonald of Bay City, his sons and their wives, Wayne and Nancy McDonald of Burleson, Texas, Glenn and Carol McDonald of Houston, Keith and Alice McDonald of Vidor, and Jon Marc and Rebecca McDonald of Cypress. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kent and wife Crystal McDonald, Courtney McDonald, Joshua and wife Crystal McDonald, Chelsea McDonald, Ashton McDonald, Joelea McDonald and Mitchell McDonald, as well as great grandchildren Jerry Glenn, Kaiden, Savannah and Evvalee McDonald.

Funeral services will be held Friday June 11, 2010 at 10:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of Bay City with Dr. Michael Zimmerman officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. His sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church of Bay City. Contributions may also be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the Alzheimer's Association.
