George Knebel Jr., 85, of Hallettsville, passed away August 24, 2026. He was born in Bay City, July 11, 1941, to George F. Knebel & Eleanor Bures Knebel. He attended Holy Cross School and graduated from Bay City High School in 1959. He attended Southwest Texas College for 2 semesters and Wharton County Junior College for 1 semester.

George was very proud of his Eagle Scout Award and the Ad Altare Dei Catholic Medal. He joined the Army Reserve, KJT and the American Legion in Blessing Texas. He was also a member of Sacred Heart Church of Hallettsville, Knights of Columbus Council #2433 and was Knight of the Year 2010-2011. He enjoyed helping decorate the courthouse, yard work, cooking and hunting.

George spent his adult life in the oilfield. He worked up from roughneck and roustabout to Senior Field Supervisor till retirement in 2006 and moved to Hallettsville in 2005.

George married Irene in 1983, in Bay City. They loved to RV or just travel; visiting 49 US States, Southern Providents of Canada and Mexico.

George is survived by daughters, Kristi Knebel Perusquia (Ernesto) and Rosalyn Kridler Williamson; sons, Keith Kridler and Gregrey Kridler; sister Margaret Knebel Hicks; special friend and sister-in-law Bernarda Bludau; numerous nieces & nephews; grandchildren & great grandchildren.

George was preceded in death by; his wife Irene Bludau Knebel, his parents, and brothers-in-law Johnny Williamson & Travis Hicks.

Memorial Mass Funeral Service: 3 pm, Monday, August 31, 2026, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville, with Visitation starting at 1:30 pm and Rosary at 2:30. Memorials: Sacred Heart Catholic School Alumni Fund, Sacred Heart Bereavement Committee or Donor’s Choice. Reception: 4 pm, after service, at Knights of Columbus of Hallettsville.
