Our beloved Chloe Genevieve Vela, 95, of Bay City, Texas went to her eternal home on April 26, 2025. Affectionately known as Gennie, momma and grandma, she passed away peacefully in her home after a brief illness.

She was born in Pettit, Texas to the late Pastor Edward Odem Pior & Ida Mae Pior on February 24, 1930. Gennie was the youngest of five children and was raised in a loving, faithful home and she kept and lived that faith her entire life. She had her only child, Royce Sheek on October 16, 1955 with the late Wayne Sheek. She was married to Chick Mayfield in 1958 until his passing in 1986. In 1994 she met Paul Vela and they were married on December 30, 1995.

Gennie was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, one brother and, numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her loving husband, Paul Vela, her "baby boy" Royce Sheek and wife Johnna, stepsons Bill Mayfield, Andrew Vela and wife Michelle, Edward Vela, stepdaughters Ginger Mayfield, Lisa Waddy and husband Jerry, and Bianca Vela, grandchildren Nicholas Sheek, Cassidy Sheek, Zak Mitchell and wife Janae, Kristen Hargrave and husband Chris, Erika Valerio, Justin Collins, Jalen Waddy, Drew Lipscomb and Mackenzie Vela. Great grandchildren, Sula Sheek and numerous others. She was blessed indeed.

Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Wednesday, April 30, 2025 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.  Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, May 1, 2025 at the Fist Baptist Church in Bay City with Dr. Mike Zimmerman officiating.  Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, May 1, 2025 at Evergreen Memorial Park in Wharton, Texas.
