Gene W. Eggemeyer, 71, of Palacios passed away August 31, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was born November 6, 1946 in El Campo, TX to the late Wilbert and Vera Shimek Eggemeyer. He served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War and worked as a heavy equipment operator at Alcoa for 30 years. After his retirement from Alcoa he enjoyed serving his church and community as Quartermaster at the Queen Hamlin VFW Post for many years. He also owned and operated a heavy equipment business and a bay shrimp boat.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother Freddy Eggemeyer.
Survivors include his wife Paige Eggemeyer of Palacios; daughter Kara Huynh and husband Joe of Arlington, TX; son Justin Eggemeyer and wife Kathleen of Georgetown, TX; sister Jeanette Schneider and husband Glen of Blessing; brothers Norbert Eggemeyer and wife Edie of El Campo, Butch Eggemeyer and wife Sharon of Mission Valley, TX and Victor Eggemeyer and wife Mabel of Palacios and by two grandchildren Mia Huynh and Ethan Huynh.
Visitation will be from 5pm until 7pm Monday with rosary service at 6:30pm at the Palacios Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Palacios Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Greg Eggemeyer, Curtis Eggemeyer, Vance Eggemeyer, Wes Schneider, Zane Eggemeyer, and Gregory Popp.
