Obituary

Gaston Arthur Morton was born on August 10, 1921 in Charleston, West Virginia to Harrison and Alice Grubbs Morton. He died peacefully on February 20, 2006. He served in the United States Navy during World War II where he was a sailor on the USS Karnes. Gaston worked for General Electric in Charleston, West Virginia, Du Pont in Aiken, South Carolina and Celanese in Bay City, Texas where he retired in 1985.

Gaston's most treasured moments were those spent with his family and friends to whom he gave his complete love and support. A devoted husband, father and grandfather he is survived by his wife of 59 years, Madge; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sandy Bell of San Antonio and Sherry and Steve Barton of Bay City; and grandchildren Kendra Bell of San Diego, CA, Stacy Bell of Rocklin, CA, Lori Barton of Austin, Kimberly Barton, and Logan Barton both of Bay City.

A long time member of Bay City First Baptist Church, Gaston served tirelessly as chairman of the maintenance committee for many years. Anyone who was privileged to know Gaston knew he was a Godly man who loved life. He was always willing to help and do for others.

Funeral service will be 4:00 pm Thursday, February 23, 2006 at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Mike Zimmerman officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Kirby Dismukes, Woody Riedel, Roger Bennett, Doug Matthes, Terry Farrar and Bob King. Honorary pallbearers include The Morning Coffee Drinkers at Diamond S and the Adult Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Youth Ministry Program.

Gaston, a true gentle man, leaves a wealth of friends who will remember him fondly as loyal, supportive, and humorous. Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City.
