Frank Cobb Vaughan, 72, passed away July 6, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Frank was born January 5, 1954, in Houston, Texas, to Ann Cobb Vaughan and E.L. “Gene” Vaughan.
Frank graduated from Bay City High School, Class of 1972, then earned his degree in Agricultural Business and Economics from West Texas State University. He later attended a Spanish immersion program at the Universidad Internacional in Cuernavaca, Mexico. After completing his studies, he returned to Bay City and established V6 Turf Farm, where his father later joined him as a partner. In the years that followed, Frank’s work with Austin Houston Landscape Systems, Gage Outdoor Expeditions, Lemoine Disaster Services, and McCall Sod Farm took him across the southern United States.
One of the highlights of his life was traveling to South Africa with his brother, Tim, while working on a sugar cane plantation. Frank liked nothing more than being outdoors on the land farming, riding a horse, or enjoying the bounty of the Texas Gulf Coast through hunting and fishing. When not doing these things, good food and even better conversation brought him deep satisfaction. His unique ability to tell stories and entertain all those gathered around the large dinner table of his family’s home will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jim, and his mother and father. Frank is survived by his sons, Frank Cobb Vaughan Jr. of Denver, Colorado, and Seth Sumers Vaughan of New York, New York; his siblings, Lee Vaughan and wife Carolyn, Sue Vaughan, Lou Snead Callaway of Bay City, Timothy Kiely Vaughan of San Antonio, Mary Vaughan Lester of Indian Wells, California, Anna Vaughan Spears of Bay City, and Cathy Vaughan Coale and husband Matt of Dripping Springs; his nephews, Tres Vaughan, Patrick Vaughan, Matt Spears, and William Coale; his nieces, Katy Pelletier, Jenny Howell, Logan Vaughan Martinez Hovelman, Jacquelin Courtine, Alexandra Spears, Wallis Spears, Mary-Anna Spears, and Suzanne Coale; his great nephews, Owen and Sam Vaughan, Greg Bass III, Paul and Finn Howell, Michael Vaughan Pelletier, and Balthazar Courtine; and his great-nieces, Maddie Bass, Hannah and Bailey Spears, Kiely and Lauren Pelletier, Charlie Courtine, and Georgianna Courtine.
Visitation will be held from 5:00–7:00 p.m., with the rosary recited at 6:30 p.m., on Monday, July 13, at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church on Tuesday, July 14, at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. Pallbearers are Tres Vaughan, Will Coale, Dennis Nicols, Pat Thomas, Teddy Hall, Alan Hinton, Dave Kacko, and Robert Long. Honorary pallbearers are Neil Holloway, Lynwood Pickens, Ricky Rackstraw, and Mike Mariner.
For those who wish, memorial donations may be made in Frank’s memory to Holy Cross Catholic School, in honor of his life long faith, or a charity of your choice, in lieu of flowers.
