Frances Sophia Bowie Shearer, 93, of Angleton passed away Monday, August 10, 2009. She was born to the late Hubert W. Bowie & Ada M. Spivey Bowie on October 8, 1915 in Bay City, TX at her uncle Harris & aunt Lou Bowie's home on 6th Street. Frances grew up in the community of Cedar Lane, TX, attending school there through the 7th grade, and then attended Bay City High School. After high school she then attended the Marinello School of Beauty in Dallas. In Palacios she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Harmony Club, and the Presbyterian Ladies Church Club.
She is survived by her daughter: Ginger S. Hennig & husband Charles of Angleton; son: Jimmy Shearer Jr. & wife Dubie of Sweeny; sister: Mildred Urban Adams of Cedar Lane; brother: Philip M. Bowie of Cedar Lane; 9 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and 4 great great grandchildren. Her parents, husband of 60 years James "Jimmy" Shearer, son Philip H. Shearer Sr., sister Huberta Petersen, and a grandson preceded Frances in death.
The family will receive visitors from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, August 13, 2009 at the Palacios Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held 10:00 AM Friday, August 14, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church of Palacios with Rev. Janelle Blair officiating. Interment will follow at Bowie Cemetery in Cedar Lane. Pallbearers will be: Bowie Hatchett, Brandon Thomas, Chase Harrison, Dicky Rutherford, Larry Harrison, and Billy Polk. Honorary pallbearers: Brian Mayper, Scott Lewis, Charles Hennig II, David Hennig, Billy Welsh, and Larry Dillard.
The family would like to thank the many friends who called, visited, and sent cards to Frances during her stay at Cypress Woods. They would also like to thank Cypress Woods Care Center Staff and Doctors Weiner and Wells for the exceptional care they gave to our mother.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Palacios, or the Cypress Woods Care Center in Angleton.
