IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Floyd Ray
Hobbs
June 13, 1942 – November 26, 2024
Floyd Ray Hobbs, 82, of Van Vleck, Texas, passed away on November 26, 2024. He was born on June 13, 1942, in Wharton, Texas, to the late Floyd and Barbara Hobbs. Ray was preceded in death by his three brothers, James Hobbs, Wilbur Hobbs, and Wayne Hobbs, as well as his son-in-law, Don Lankston.
Ray leaves behind his loving wife of 61 years, Carole Anne Bell Hobbs, and their three daughters: Kim Lankston, Melanie Baker and husband Brad, and Courtney Guzman and husband Fabian. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Annita Hobbs, and his beloved grandchildren: Aaron Lankston and wife Dana, Josh Lankston and wife Haley, Zane Baker, Jace Baker, Jacob Guzman, Isaac Guzman, and Ana Guzman. Ray was a proud great-grandfather to Makensie Thibodeaux, Abigail Lankston, Wiley Lankston, Waylon Lankston, Greyson Lankston, and Grant Lankston.
Ray graduated from Boling High School in 1961, where he was an accomplished athlete, excelling in football, basketball, and track. In 1963, he married Carole and they moved to Brenham, where their first daughter, Kim, was born in 1964. Ray later worked for Dr. Pepper before relocating to Newgulf, where he began his long career at Texasgulf Sulphur Company. Their second daughter, Melanie, was born in 1969. In 1972, Ray and Carole moved to Van Vleck, where they made their home and raised their family. Their third daughter, Courtney, was born in 1982.
After 25 years at Texasgulf, Ray retired and pursued a career as a grass farmer, a passion he continued until the age of 70. Ray loved spending time outdoors, especially fishing, hunting, and camping. He was an avid fan of his Baylor Bears, the Houston Astros, and the Houston Texans. Above all, Ray was a devoted family man who worked hard to provide for his loved ones and was known for his friendly nature—he never met a stranger.
The celebration of Ray's life will begin with a visitation on Monday, December 2, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 AM at Calvary Baptist Church, with Brother Lane Par Due officiating.
