Evelyn Ruth Benefield, 83, of Sweeny passed away May 27, 2013. She was born January 28, 1930 in Quanah, TX to the late Ernest Leamon and Mary Alice Tallant Gentry. She worked as an insurance clerk for Sweeny Hospital for many years.

Her husband, Fendley Benefield, preceded her in death in 2005 and son, Clifford Earl Benefield in 2000. Survivors include 2 sons Fendley Benefield, Jr. of Galveston and Robert L. Benefield & wife Kimberly of Brazoria; 3 sisters Frances Fisher of Burleson, TX, Patsy Stafford of Fort Worth and Sandra Kimmer of Dallas; brother Ernest "Sonny" Gentry, Jr. of Streetman, TX; 4 grandchildren Shanaka Beaty, Lance Leamon Benefield, Jennifer Ruth Benefield, and Kynsie Benefield and two great grandchildren Kaiden Beaty and Morgan Beaty.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 5pm until 7pm Wednesday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Thursday, May 30, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Old Ocean with Rev. Joe Constantine Officiating. Interment will follow at Sweeny Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Fisher, Glen Fisher, Harold Barker, Jerry Holland, Mike Orr and Darryl Orr.
