Eugene E. Steinmeyer, 78, died of cancer December 7, 2012, in Gainesville, Georgia, after a nineteen year battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Gene was born November 17, 1934, in Bay City, Texas, to Bill and Verlie Steinmeyer. After graduating from Bay City High School, he served four years in the U.S. Air Force. He then attended Sam Houston State University, earning a Bachelor's, a Master's, and both principal and superintendent certifications. Before his retirement, he worked in the Bay City ISD and the La Porte ISD as a teacher, coach, and principal.

Gene is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Audrey LaBeff, James Steinmeyer, and Ann Hale. He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Janice, son Drew Steinmeyer and his wife Colleen, and daughter Gina Nelson and her husband Freddie; grandchildren Christel Ostrom, Corey Tuggle and his wife Stephanie, Jonathan Volponi, Cade O'Brien, and Freddie Nelson Jr. and great grandchildren Seth Ostrom and Logan Tuggle.

Visitation will be at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City on Friday, December 28, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The memorial service will be at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 29, 2012.
